As the temps climb in NYC, I've been discussing with colleagues the viability of a suit with shorts to combat the heat. While I have some nice shorts, and no shortage of jackets, nothing in my closet that is polished enough for office wear.
The other trend noticed coming out of last week's Milan menswear shows is the strong solid colors in suiting: Gucci had some great ones, and as I write this the Twitter feed out of the Dries show is saying the same.
Bringing these two together... Raf Simons, in this week's Paris show. I am obsessed with the bold green and blue he chose. It is stronger than what was shown at Gucci, not quite as pastel, which for me means more cross-season versatility.
I also love the shorts -- the length is perfect for me, and the front slit adds a great dimension to the overall look.
You can see the rest of Raf's Spring '13 collection here -- and stay tuned for me rockin' a shorts suit next year!

Cape from Moncler Gamme Bleu: Things I Want
This is not the first time Thom Browne has designed a cape for Spring... although the last one I saw was for his collaboration at Black Fleece.
In Milan this week he showed Moncler Gamme Bleu for Spring '13 and had a few hooded capes. It was the quilted gray with the Thom Browne hallmarked red, white, and blue stripe that caught my eye.
Suitable for summer rainstorms, or a windy day at the beach!
You can see the rest of the collection at Fucking Young...

Carven Spring 2013: Things I Love
Both here and on Twitter I've been extolling the virtues of Guillaume Henryand his work on the Carven menswear line. I really love the subtle French influence, the boxier cut on a lot of the pieces, the fun patterns + colors he's used.
And I found it totally understandable that he was invited to be showcased at Pitti Uomo this year.
For Spring '13 he continued the success with suit/shorts, great prints, and the same cropped/French influence he's used thus far. Here are a few of my favs...
Never one to shy from prints, i loved this shirt, jacket, short combo.
I really enjoyed this contrasting shirt, paired with the light blue pants and red loafers -- perfect Spring look!
Always a fan of the crop, and I love the check on these pants. Also the jacket seems similar to the Carven one I bought this Spring, which means I'll love the fit.
You can find the rest of the (incredible) collection at Style.com.

This peacoat in a light green has a nice length and the color works well for warmer weather.

E. Tautz Spring 2013 Collection: Things I Love
Back from vacation and catching up on the recaps from last week's Men's Fashion Week in London... and there were quite a few standouts. But my consistent favorite was E. Tautz, presented by designer Patrick Grant.
I am used to see detailed tailoring from this line and so was initially surprised by the flow of pieces, as well as the bold use of color. But I definitely enjoyed both and really feel like it's a great direction for Spring '13.
This colorful look with the loose sleeves is perfect for summer

Also seeing the easy flow in these fuschia colored pants -- and complemented with a semi-sheer navy sweater.
I'm always up for yellow and navy, so the combination is a sure win! A slimmer fit on these pants but really love the pop they give.
Can't say the shirt dress is for me -- but I do appreciate how it works in with the flow and ease of the other pieces.
This being E. Tautz there was of course some great suiting, and a generally well rounded line. Check out the rest of the collection at The Fashionisto.

Kilim Slippers from Istanbul: Things I Have
I just returned from a week long trip to Turkey... it included a number of days sailing the southern coast and a couple of days exploring Istanbul.
While at the Spice Bazaar in Istanbul I came across a rug shop that was also selling slippers... I had to stop in and check it out!
Turns out they used kilim rugs and repurpose them into these amazing shoes. Each pair is unique and the colors and patterns vary greatly. I tried on half a dozen pairs before settling on these... super comfortable + I really liked the colorful design!

Excited to pair them with a white shirt and jeans, for a casual summer look.

Tee Shirt from Todd Snyder: Things I Have
I have been following menswear designer Todd Snyder since he launched his eponymous line, and have enjoyed the aesthetic: put together but not too much so, military influences, and a very high quality product.
A couple of weeks ago I visited their summer pop-up at Odin, where fantastic suits (and a tux) are available... and I couldn't resist grabbing a tie while I was there.
This past weekend I went back to Odin, to try on a few summer shirts and fell in love with the Todd Snyder tee. It has to be the softest, most comfortable tee I've tried on. I love the wide neck, the slouchy fit, and the heathered color.
Couldn't resist taking it home + now it's packed for next week's Turkish cruise! Odin has more Snyder for you... check it out!

Polka Dot Shirt from Engineered Garments: Things I Have
Over the weekend I stopped into Odin, a favorite menswear store on Lafayette. I was looking for some tees and tanks to take with me on vacation, and came across a great short sleeve shirt from Engineered Garments.
It is cut similarly to a polo shirt, with a three button placket. And there are great tone-on-tone white polka dots... that are probably too subtle to see pictured here, but up close add a nice touch to the shirt.
Love the fit and how lightweight it is... this is definitely getting packed for next week's boating adventure! Find out more on the Odin site!

Men's Threads Press: What To Wear to Work
The Wall Street Journal did a story this week on what people who work in fashion wear to work... and they included me, Men's Threads! The story commented on my sockless look (of course) and on my rolled pants...
You'll recognize all of the pieces I am wearing -- especially the bandana tie, for which a lot of you have commented, and requested one of your own. Also wearing a Uniqlo Oxford, another Men's Threads fav. And my N. Hoolywood blazer...
Was definitely excited to see the whole look in print -- you can see the digital version here!
