Things I Love: GQ's Trends for Men

This morning I read Jim Moore's top trends for men, over at He pulled out some great stuff from the recent men's shows in NY (a lot of Michael Bastian's work, yeah!).

What made me smile was how many of the items are things I've been rockin' lately (or hoping to rock)... I'm just saying!

One trend was tuxedo jackets. Now this is possibly the blurriest photo ever, but I took it while I was in Miami for Art Basel, on my way out to some parties. I threw on my navy Patrik Ervell tuxedo jacket, with a tailored white shirt and dark Uniqlo jeans. Plus my favorite yellow Nixon watch.

Another trend was dark khakis, which is something I just picked up when I was in Shanghai last week (in a sort of washed olive color). Wore them to work this week with a white shirt.

He also mentioned waxed jackets, which I bought last year (J. Lindberg jacket) and have been using in colder climates ever since.

And then there was the corduroy suit. This is something I have been wanting for a while, most recently when Opening Ceremony collaborated with Levi's. So fun!

Now you better go read the whole article to find out what Jim calls out, so you can start shopping:

Things I Want: Cole Haan Shoes

I've been seeing Todd Selby's work in a lot of places (with good reason!), most recently showcasing at colette.

Then today I came across this photo shoot he did for the Cole Haan Spring catalog. And I love it! The first shot I saw was a man with his feet on the dash of a car, pants rolled up, and a fun saying scrawled on the dash.

But then I got to this picture and these amazing blue and white two-tone shoes. They are calling my name! Perfect for Spring...

Check out the rest of the spread via Hypebeast:, and get excited for Spring!

Things I Want: Boat Tattoo

Let me start by saying I am not totally sure I *want* another tattoo... but if I were to get one, this would be it! I love the simplicity of the sketch and the boat itself (some of you may remember my obsession with anchors over the summer).

I also like the placement, on the wrist. Until now I'd always thought I would prefer a tattoo on my upper arm, but the size of the boat on the inside of the wrist seems to fit just right!

I found the tattoo as part of a photo shoot on one of my favorite fashion sites (Fashion 156)... here's the link to the larger photo (because the shirt he's wearing isn't so bad either!):

Things I Have: Kickass Uniqlo T-shirt

On my recent trip to Shanghai I picked up a few things (see prior posts on shoes, t-shirts, jeans). One of my buys had been a really cool striped t-shirt from Uniqlo, which my brother Adam subsequently said he wanted.

So... I decided to give it to him and get a new one for myself.

Enter this awesome + kickass shirt with cool Japanese illustration and an exclamatory phrase whose meaning escapes me. Kiiiiiiin!!

Can't wait to rock this around L.A. as an addition to my tees from Japan that no one here has.

Check it out on the Uniqlo Japan site:

Things I Want: Ballantyne Spring 2010

I'm sorry but I can't say I've ever paid much attention to Ballantyne (apart from reading last year that Phillipe Starck and his wife were going to collab on a few pieces with the label).

But I am dying over their Spring 2010 lookbook. Can I please have all of it!

I've copied in a few of my favorites here (the blue sweater with the boat is amazing) and I am drooling over the take on the argyles in bright colors.

Found these at that Bible of men's fashion photos (Fashionisto, naturally)... go there for more from the Ballantyne lookbook:

Things I Love: Splash Out! Editorial

I found this editorial spread on one of my favorite reads (The Fashionisto) and just loved it. Of course it feeds into my need for bright colors and wild or eye-catching patterns.

Two of my favorite shots I have shared below -- the all blue (aquamarine?) hoodie, backpack, and shorts with the applied splash of pink across the bottom. Super fun!

And then the quilt jacket and paint splattered jeans (this isn't the first time I've fallen for paint-y jeans). So cool! But really... I want those jeans.

The spread will be in the new issue of Re-bel, but you can check it out here:
