Sports Coat from Shipley & Halmos: Things I Have

I am always on the lookout for a good sports coat, they've become such a staple in my wardrobe. Yesterday I found this one from Shipley & Halmos -- and I liked the light color, which will be perfect for Spring/Summer, but which I can also pair with darker colors going into Fall.

As with everything Shipley does, the coat fit me perfectly and I snatched it up! I'm excited to wear it with a white shirt and jeans, and my favorite Gucci loafers.

You can check it out on the Barney's website...

Vanishing Elephant S/S '11 Collection: Things I Love

Since I discovered Australian label Vanishing Elephant, on a recent trip to Sydney, I've been keeping watch of their work. I love the pieces I bought, and definitely want to get some more.

They've just released a lookbook for F/W '11 (which would be Australia's S/S '11) that has a lot of great looks! First to catch my eye was the brocade dinner jacket -- which I could easily pair with existing pieces from my closet for a great vintage and dressed up look.

I also really like that they're not afraid of pattern or color, or the mixing of these. The tailored suiting, or the red polka dot shorts are just a few more pieces that I was drawn to from the collection.

Hypebeast has some more photos and you can also check out the Vanishing Elephant site for more info + stockists.

Madras Coat + Shorts: Things I Want

While I was at Barney's over the weekend looking for a swimsuit, I also perused the Michael Bastian for Gant selection. I saw this fantastic madras coat (with gray elbow patches), and then I saw the matching shorts.

Had. To. Try. Them. On.

The result was totally amazing. These two items just rocketed to the top of my "want" list for S/S '11. With a white shirt and some loafers this would be *the* outfit of the season.

Given they pieces were designed by Mr. Bastian, they of course fit perfectly. The shorts were snug around my waist, but not too tight in the leg. The jacket hit me right in the shoulder and was not too boxy.

For now I'll just imagine myself at a summer party rockin' this look...

Images from Barney's, go check these items (and the rest of the MB for Gant range) there.

Gant Rugger Swimsuit: Things I Have

I'm heading to Palm Springs for the Easter weekend and decided it was time for a new swimsuit. So of course I headed right to Barney's to see what they had.

No surprise that the first suit to catch my eye was from Gant Rugger. I loved the fun madras print, the front and back pockets, and the square cut. Tried it on and it fit perfectly!

I always love a little color and so this mix of navy, yellow, and white is a great match. Super excited to rock this out in a few days...

Check out the Gant site for more from their Spring '11 collection.

Editorial from Oki-ni: Things I Love

I totally fell in love with this Oki-ni editorial when I saw it today on Coute que Coute. The whole mood feels like Spring: the lighting, the model sitting in the window, the shorts and sandals. Very well styled and shot and it got me in the mood for Saturday evening barbeques and walking around empty streets on a Sunday afternoon.

It also helps that some of my favorite labels are shown... Band of Outsiders, Kitsune, Thom Browne, Jil Sander. The list goes on!

Below is my favorite look: some Kitsune shorts with a Band of Outsiders shirt. Love it!

If you didn't already get this from my raving above, you must check out the rest of the shots!

Suit from Frankie Morello: Things I Love

I have always been drawn to bright things. Color, patterns, pop -- I love it all. So this morning I came across this campaign for Frankie Morello and just couldn't take my eyes off this bright floral suit.

And by suit I mean... shirt, tie, jacket, pants all the same print. It's kind of insane + kind of genius. I want the whole look! While definitely something you couldn't do season after season, pieces of this ensemble could be re-purposed with dark jeans or a white shirt.

I'm definitely a fan! Go to The Fashionisto to check out the rest of the new campaign...

Canvas Dyed Tote Bag: Things I Want

I can never turn down a great tote bag. There are about five on my "want" list right now, and this half-dyed canvas one below will make it six.

From Paris label Teddyfish, I just loved the functionality of canvas and the eye-catching red dye. Perfect bag for Spring!

You can read more at Kempt (including how this bag is, sadly, currently sold out).

Seersucker Shirt from Weathered: Things I Have

On my recent trip to Sydney I did a little shopping. One day in Paddington I came across this fantastic store Incu. They stocked my favorite brands... Band of Outsiders, Warriors of Radness, Eastpak, Topman. And they had some great Australian brands too!

One of the items I purchased was this great short-sleeve seersucker shirt from the label Weathered. Really liked the slim fit, the refined seersucker, and that it will work in the upcoming Spring/Summer months in L.A.

Excited to start wearing this new addition to my wardrobe. Incu also offers online shopping, check out their full site!

Raw Silk Tie: Things I Have

Last weekend while in NYC I did a little bit of shopping. I had some time before the Loden Dager show and so stopped into Bergdorf's... namely I wanted to see the Spring collection from Marlon Gobel. But as I walked in there was a mannequin wearing a seersucker jacket and an amazing raw silk tie.

I was totally taken and went to check out the full line of these ties... by Drake's of London, for Bergdorf's. After a lot of indecision (there were so many great color combinations), I settled on this one with red, white, and blue stripes.

It just really caught my eye, and gave me a sort of Thom Browne moment.

Of course I then had to wear it out! So here's me doing NYFW in aforementioned raw silk tie. I love it!

Swimwear from Warriors of Radness: Things I Want

This is not my first post about Warriors of Radness (nor do I suspect it will be my last). It's no surprise the label was nominated for GQ Best New Menswear Designer of the Year. Just really great stuff season after season.

And while it is currently 20 degrees in NYC, I am heading to Sydney in two weeks... and boy do I want this swimsuit from their S/S 2011 collection.

Love the way they've mixed up the rainbow, which also ties into the Gay and Lesbian Surf Association (GLSA) references designer Rick Klotz shows throughout the line. Read more about that here in his recent GQ interview.

I picked up this preview from Selectism. You should check it out too.

Spring/Summer from Freshjive: Things I Want

Getting in the mood for summer is easy with the bright + colorful collection from Freshjive.

I am really into the shorts, the striped button downs, and the tank tops. Actually I want all of the tank tops. Great colors, fun patterns, and really look fresh (excuse the pun) for warm weather.

Came across the new collection on one of my favorite new sites... Antenna Mag! Head there to check out the rest of the shots.

Michael Bastian for Gant Spring 2011: Things I Love

If you haven't yet been convinced of the brilliance that is Michael Bastian's collaboration with Gant... well, here's one last shot. It's the video lookbook for the S/S 2011 release...

Bastian continues to inject core Americana into the line -- you definitely see his design DNA in there, all while staying true to Gant's history and branding. When you see this collaboration at retail it lives so harmoniously with both the Gant Rugger line.

After watching the video a few times, I am putting quite a few items on my wish list. But I think the seersucker pants are my #1 must have. After that I love the multi-colored panel striped shirt, the canvas jacket, and the worn denim.

Kudos to Bastian and his team, both for another fantastic collection and for the recent GQ Menswear Fashion Designer of the Year nomination!

Check out the video + then make your own S/S '11 wish list.

Dior Couture: Things I Love

So this is a little diversion from my usual menswear posts... but every so often I have to highlight things that I love. And I am (again) loving what Galliano has done with Dior Couture. Just amazing.

There continues to be such a disciplined aesthetic, where you would know any of these fantastic creations were Dior, should you see them walking down the street. Okay, so it's couture and you won't see it on the next Tommy Ton post... but still, you get the point.

I had to share my two favorites, both very different, but both involving a lot of feathers.

I strongly suggest you check out the rest of the show at Style.com... you will not regret it.

Filippa K Spring 2011: Things I Love

With a few shots Filippa K just got me into the mood for Spring, in a major way. Came across their S/S 2011 campaign and loved the easy styling, the wheat field setting, and the lightness off the photos.

When I lived in Amsterdam I became a big fan of the label, and have followed them here in the States (courtesy of Barney's).

Great work (and I wouldn't mind that navy blazer!)...

Go to the post from Fashionisto for more shots + a short video!

Thom Browne in Wonderland: Things I Love

So this *might* be my second Thom Browne related post of the week, but don't judge. The man is just kind of amazing. And this shoot for Wonderland is such a perfect expression of Browne's character and aesthetic. I'm only slightly obsessed...

Although I can't decide which I prefer between the sharp black & white shots with paper hats and masks, or the glossly colorful ones.

I've written in the past about this collection and how much I love the infusion of nautical icons. I also think the sequined plaid jacket is brilliant. Browne took one of his mainstay prints and the sequin monster just threw up all over it. I love it.

You must go to The Fashionisto and check out the full editorial.

Vincent Schoepfer Spring 2011: Things I Want

A couple of years ago I came across shots from Vincent Schoepfer's lookbook, right around the time he started showing at Capsule. I thought the photos were really fun & playful, and the clothes looked right up my alley.

Since then I've been following the season-by-season merriment that Vincent puts out and I have to say he does a great job keeping it whimsical!

Now I was recently going through his latest collection and I really love the athletic nature of the shoot and the pieces, a couple of which reminded me of Alexander Wang's whole 'football' theme last year.

I've included my favorite below -- the quilted stitching of the shirt, with the mesh shoulders. So cool! I want it!

Check out the rest of the collection here at Fashionisto, or go to the designer's website and enjoy his past collections too!

Kitsune S/S 2011: Things I Want

I've long been a fan of Parisian based label Kitsune. I still dream about the shoes they collaborated on with Pierre Hardy. And their super fun promotional videos for new collections (Video by Kitsune).

So now... they've released images from their S/S 2011 collection and I love it! Casual, fun, man about town with a slight European flair.

My favorite look was definitely the two toned jacket, shown below. I love the soft colors and the light to dark contrast.

Check out the rest of the collection at Selectism: http://www.selectism.com/news/2010/07/22/kitsune-springsummer-2011-collection-the-reporter/.

Enjoy!

Thom Browne S/S 2011: Things I Love

Where do I begin... I think I've written after every single Thom Browne show to say that I wish I could have been there. It is so much more than just seeing a collection -- it is an experience. From his Pitti show with 40 models sitting at desks, to showcasing a S/S collection at an indoor swimming pool, to models sleeping on cots to open the show... Thom does it all!

This season he moved the show for his own line (versus the collection he does for Moncler) to Paris. And he put the models in spacesuits. And they had yellow glitter lips (an evolution from his last NY show where they all had a black striped down their lips). And it all looked amazing!

Really liked the variation on the jacket and shorts -- a lot of stripes, use of Thom's core palette (white, blue, red, gray) and a very playful streak.

I've included photos from two of my favorite looks... sharks and some fun yellow madras. And while I want both, I know Thom's price points and firmly believe these will remain in my dream closet, and not my real one.

You can check out all of the looks at Style.com: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/S2011MEN-TBROWNE. You can also see a video of the show from the T Magazine blog: http://tmagazine.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/06/28/now-screening-thom-browne-2/.

Theory Sportscoat: Things I Have

On last weekend's shopping excursion I tried on a great sportscoat from Theory. I've been addicted to sportscoats the past couple of years and now have a nice array in my closet.

This one from Theory was nice and light (for Spring), blue and white stripes, and fit me so well. Actually everything from Theory fits me well... often when I wear their dress shirts I am asked if they were custom tailored for me.

So how could I pass this up, especially given it was on sale. Well... I didn't.

I got mine at Barney's (aka Mecca), but you can look at it on the Theory website: http://www.theory.com/mens-sportcoats-royden-emanate/A0184125,default,pd.html?dwvar_A0184125_color=BW3&start=3&cgid=sale-mens-sportcoats

Armani S/S 2011: Things I Love

Fine... when you start a show with Evandro Soldati on the runway, you have my attention. Although lately the Brazilian is everywhere!

But I was actually really intrigued with Armani's showing for S/S 2011 -- the leather, the military influence, and even the unitards.

In the look below (avec monsieur Soldati), I love the rolled leather pants (that do look like leggings), the buttoned up shirt, and light jacket. In fact going through images from the show, I was mesmerized by the number of looks that were completely black. Part of me wanted to say -- Giorgio, this is for S/S! But I still love it.

You must must must check out the rest of this collection... the Armani team pulled it out!
