Lemon & Lime Shirt from Gitman Vintage: Things I Want

On what is a truly crappy weather day here in NYC, I had to share this bright & fun Gitman Vintage shirt that I came across in Barney's San Francisco last week.

Short sleeve, slim fit, and with enough pop to brighten any dreary day -- this will be a must-pack for my end of Winter/early Spring beach and warm weather destinations.

More details (or you can just go ahead and buy it) here at Barney's.

Spread Collar Shirts from Sid Mashburn: Things I Have

Last week I was briefly in Atlanta, en route to Florida beaches to ring in 2013. While in town, I had to make a stop by Sid Mashburn, the venerable men's shop with some of the best merchandising around.

While there I decided to pick up a couple of spread collar shirts from Sid's private label. I loved the colors of this one -- they call it a cheery "childrens-book plaid". The flannel was thin enough that I can wear it with a tie, but still give some winter warmth. Small but thick buttons dress it up a bit, and the cut is slim enough so as not to billow under a jacket.

I also grabbed this great tattersall in wine and black -- a little more dressy than the flannel (and I felt a little more suited to Spring), but the colors stood out to me.
My last time in Atlanta I ordered a beautiful Made to Measure gingham suit from Sid, and picked up a few items for my mother at his wife's store -- Ann Mashburn. Since that visit the two stores have combined, they're now connected by a clever back hallway that allows you to move back and forth and keep you in a total Mashburn induced haze.

Shirt from COS: Things I Want

While in Bilbao last week I stopped into COS, the up-market brand from H&M. Ever since my friend Tanner told me about them, I've been a fan. I find it to have a Scandinavian aesthetic (read simple yet quirky) and offers something I can't find Stateside. Whenever I'm in a European city that has a COS, I check it out.

So last week I tried on this killer chambray shirt. Well they call it a "shirt" but I'd go more for shacket -- it has the thickness of a regular shirt but there are side pockets and an elastic waist, making it more like an over-shirt or jacket.

I can totally see wearing this partially buttoned over a t-shirt or gingham shirt...

Now the only reason I didn't buy this was because they didn't have my size + COS does not ship outside of countries it has stores... so it's on my #want list for now!

Polka Dot Shirt from Engineered Garments: Things I Have

Over the weekend I stopped into Odin, a favorite menswear store on Lafayette. I was looking for some tees and tanks to take with me on vacation, and came across a great short sleeve shirt from Engineered Garments.

It is cut similarly to a polo shirt, with a three button placket. And there are great tone-on-tone white polka dots... that are probably too subtle to see pictured here, but up close add a nice touch to the shirt.

Love the fit and how lightweight it is... this is definitely getting packed for next week's boating adventure! Find out more on the Odin site!

Summer Print Shirt from Loden Dager: Things I Want

Last year I wrote about the Loden Dager Spring '12 show, which was one of my favorites that season. I particularly liked the striped print that the they showed on shirts, tanks, and totes.

The print is a lot of fun -- a nice mix of bright colors, and a blocked look to the stripes. I came across the short sleeve button down shirt on the Loden site and think it'd be a perfect addition to my summer beach wardrobe.

Pair it with some denim or white shorts + you're good to go!

Check it out here + snag one to brighten your summer look!

Shirt from FLAPH x Barney's: Things I Want

This morning I came across this shirt on Hypebeast and with the red, white, and blue cuffs thought for a second it was from Thom Browne.

But no, it is Japanese label FLAPH, done in collaboration with Barney's. I love the spread collar, detailed tailoring, and that it is made of a quick drying fabric (summer swelter, anyone?). And of course for me, the tri-color ribbed cuff is the selling point, that touch of individuality that makes it (and you) stand out.

Head over to Hypebeast to see the shirt in blue, and you can also link to the FLAPH's own site.

Spread Collar Shirt from Thom Browne: Things I Have

Last weekend I decided I needed to do a little shopping... and so stopped by Odin in SoHo. I walked away with pants, shoes (as shot by Tommy Ton) and this fantastic Thom Browne shirt.

In my quest to stray from everything navy, I really liked the subtle red and white check, and definitely got behind the spread collar. Tried it on, fit like a glove, and I was sold!

I wore the shirt this week with my N. Hoolywood blazer and the spread collar contrasting with the navy shawl collar on the jacket was perfect.

It's a great addition to my wardrobe and can't wait to get more wear out of it!

Oxford Shirts from Uniqlo: Things I Love

I've been a big fan of Uniqlo well before they hit Stateside... when I worked in Asia I started (and still do) get most of my denim there. They're great for basics in fun colors, and the Japanese slim tailoring is perfect for me.

Recently I had an emergency for a white shirt and bought a Uniqlo oxford. And I loved it! It fit me so well, was easy to wear, and totally flexible to dress up or down. Paired the white one with my new AMI sweater, which was a big hit.

I've since gone back and bought it in 3 of the 5 colors they offer (two shown here). My younger brother commented on how much he liked mine, so he got one too.

While they now have three stores in NYC (one dangerously close to where I live), that's it for their U.S. retail presence, and they currently don't offer e-com in the States. So for now, just go to their site and drool (or ask me to pick something up for you!).

Bespoken for Spring '12: Things I Want

I wasn't able to attend the Bespoken show for Spring 2012, but a friend graciously shared their lookbook, which was done on newsprint. I read it on the plane last weekend and pulled out a shot of a great two-tone shirt.

Curious, I checked out the whole collection at GQ and liked what I saw. I am always a fan of two-tone pieces, seen below in both the jacket and the shirt.

I also liked the brightly printed shirt and shorts they showed, and the leather armband detail. While a little 'military', it actually reminded me of a more aggressive version of Thom Browne's dual white stripes on sleeves.

Bespoken's site gives some good background on the label (seemingly in their fourth season), as well as local stockists.

Dress Shirt from Hugh and Crye: Things I Have

I arrived home tonight to a package on the front porch... my new shirt from Hugh & Crye! I'm always searching for well made shirts that fit well, especially with slim tailoring so it doesn't feel like I'm wearing a parachute.

I had ordered the Washington, D.C. based brand's rounded collar in the color "Lil League Gum" which I thought would sneak right into my Spring/Summer wardrobe.

Needless to say the shirt fit perfectly (I went with their Tall/Lean sizing) and I can't wait to wash it and wear it. Here's a promo shot of the shirt from their website...

I definitely suggest you check out all of their styles and consider picking up one for yourself. And from now until the end of May, you can enter code "mensthreadsVIP" for a $25 discount! What are you waiting for...

Thom Browne Shirt: Things I Have

I received a very generous gift for Christmas... Barney's gift card! Perfect! So this past weekend I went to my mecca... Barney's in Beverly Hills.

Unfortunately there wasn't really any Spring in yet, and the last vestiges of F/W... but I did pick up a really great Thom Browne shirt from Fall. I love that he is so consistent with the red, white, blue color palette. I am soooo excited to rock this!

Saving this for when I head to NY in a couple of weeks! Oh and I won't mention (at least not in this post) the damage I did in men's skincare.

Things I Want: Michael Bastian S/S 2010

As Fashion Week wraps up, I have been looking at photos over the past week of both the men's + women's shows. There have been some great pieces and I will be writing about more them in the next few days... but first I had to, had to post about Michael Bastian's show for S/S 2010.

Can I just say that I think it is AMAZING! Michael really pulled it out with such a fantastic mix of casual shirts, shorts and hoodies (his staples) with some great suiting, and a few really nice coats. I am loving the whole collection (well maybe except for the camo shorts... that's just something I can't get behind).

Here is a photo of my very favorite shirt from the collection. It's funny because knowing that Michael will be desiging for Gant, I can see where this shirt could be a great bridge from his own line to Gant's.

Anyway, enough ranting from me. Just go to We Are the Market and check out the rest of their photos.... and then come back here and see what else I loved from the recent shows.
