Leather + Rubber Lace-Ups from Prada: Things I Want

Last Friday I decided to go check out the new shoe floor at Barney's -- they've turned the fifth floor into a mixed men's and women's shoe palace...

I have to admit I was really impressed. The space is beautiful, well laid out, and there was an interesting mix of men's shoes available.  Definitely an opportunity for Barney's to grow and expand in this category.

While I was exploring I saw some amazing Rick Owens hightops, the Balenciaga sneakers I've been ogling, and these amazing Prada lace-ups.

These are incredible -- a leather lace-up with a rubber outer layer applied to the sole and the bottom third of the shoe. The pointed protrusions on the sole are a little much for me, but I could get over it just based on the novelty.

I feel like I'd need a Prada suit to go with these shoes, or something very classic that can handle the shocking red rubber... but I'd be willing to give it a try! Check them out here on the Prada site.

Sportswatch from Nike: Things I Want

This may be a slight departure from my fashion-focused 'wants' but I loved the design of this watch from Nike. I am a fan of large rubber watches (I have a growing collection...) and I thought the huge display on this one was really cool.

The watch was done with TomTom (the GPS company) so you can accurately track your distance and route while running. I'm not a big runner... but hey, you never know.

Rubber Shoes from Shudy: Things I Have

While traveling last week I read a post from Sartorially Inclined, one of my favorite menswear blogs. He was talking about these great rubber shoes from Italian brand Shudy.

As I'm on the hunt for some summer kicks, and have been looking at boat shoes, I loved these because they were a mix of driving shoe (treaded on the bottom), boat shoe, and in an all-weather material. Had to have them!

So courtesy of Bluefly, I found 'em, bought 'em, and they were waiting on my doorstep when I got home from South America. I wore them over the weekend, got a lot of compliments, and can't wait to continue rockin' them throughout the summer!

Things I Want: Rubber shoes from Native

I came across these shoes yesterday, made out of EVA, designed by Native. I thought they were really cool -- a take on a casual lace up, but perforated, and made of rubber! They reminded me a little of the Band of Outsiders for Sperry shoes in rubber... although these seem more multi-functional.

There are multiple color options (red, blue, yellow) but I prefer the gray. I think it's a great Spring choice, paired with a bright t-shirt and some shorts.

Another great find by Highsnobiety, check out the full article (and more photos!) here: http://www.highsnobiety.com/news/2010/02/11/native-springsummer-2010-jefferson/#more-94419

Things I Want: Purple Swatch

Since I just recently wrote about my mission to buy solids, and since I have a thing for bright rubber watches, how could I resist this brilliant color palette from Swatch!

There are twenty different colors, but I think the purple (or Callicarpa as Swatch has named it) is my fav. So cute and would be a really fun accessory for a day out on the town. And at 38 EUR the price can't be beat.

Found these at Acquire (http://www.acquiremag.com/style/watches/swatch-color-codes.php) and the watches are available at colette (http://www.colette.fr/#/eshop/article/580667/swatch/53/).

Enjoy!

Things I Have: Ring by Martin Margiela

Have to admit... I am a bit obsessed with Martin Margiela, and as soon as I saw this ring on Oki-ni (www.oki-ni.com) I knew it had to be mine.
It is a steel key coated in white rubber (also comes in black). Brilliant!
The only problem is that the ring arrived, I tried it on, and realized I didn't like it on my pinky and it didn't really fit on my other fingers. So I'm slowly bending it out and will put it on a string, to wear around my neck. Regardless of how you wear it, it's a great accessory from a great man.
